Keeping Busy, and Keeping it Brief

Last week was crazy busy, which is why there weren’t any posts. I was in court 3 days in a row, (spoke two days!) and observed autopsies on Friday. I also wrote two fairly long motions/appeals.

This week, on the other hand, I’m assigned to the Juvenile Division, where we work with both Child Welfare and Delinquency cases. First, pretty much everything is super confidential. Second, we haven’t really gotten to do anything other than observe. Having spent one day in each division, I have come to the conclusion that the Juvenile Division is not for me, and I should stick to criminal. (This work is like the civil employment law work I was doing for my clinic. I can do it if I have to, and don’t really mind it, but the pure joy that sparked the post “Happiness” just isn’t there.)

In other news, I’ve signed up for classes (yaaay) and pretty much got everything I wanted. I just need to make sure that I have the right number of credits. Also, I might not have mentioned it yet; I’m going to be working with either the Brooklyn or Manhattan DA’s Office this coming fall as part of a (different) clinic/externship. (They call it an externship, but it’s basically a clinic, and it’s essentially the same as what I’m doing now, but there’s a classroom component.) I’m very much looking forward to it.
